At their June 24, 2019 meeting, the GO Virginia State Board announced the approval of nine regional projects funded through GO Virginia regional per capita grants totaling over $1.1 million. Four GO Virginia regions participated in this round of GO Virginia funding requests. Of the nine approved projects, six are enhanced capacity building and three are collaborative implementation grants. It was a great day for Region One as all three submitted proposals were approved by the State Board, which accounted for the most approved for any one region at the meeting.

The GO Virginia Region One Council, at their May 7, 2019 meeting at the Bristol Virginia School Board Office, approved recommendations of three project proposals for Per Capita grant funding totaling $220,947.24.
The GO Virginia State Board announced the approval of seven regional projects funded through GO Virginia regional per capita and competitive grants totaling $6.7 million. In Region One, Mountain Empire Community College’s project, Smart Farming at the Center for Workforce and Innovation of Appalachia, was awarded $310,472 in per capita funding. The GO-TEC Phase II competitive proposal involving Region One was submitted by Region Three and approved at $4.8 million with $1.3 million in initial funding.
It is with much sadness that we share that GO Virginia Region One Council member, George Cridlin, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018.
At their December 4, 2018 meeting at the Wayne C. Henderson School of Appalachian Arts, the GO Virginia Region One Council approved a Per Capita funding recommendation in the amount of $310,371.84 for the Mountain Empire Community College proposal, entitled Smart Farming at the Center for Workforce and Innovation of Appalachia (CWIA).
GO Virginia Region One is hosting a free grant writing workshop for regional organizations to build capacity for submitting competitive grant proposals for various types of grant opportunities. The workshop is not limited to GO Virginia and will include process, practices, and tools that might apply to a full range of funding opportunities. Catherine Van Noy of Mill Creek Creative will outline the process for grant proposal pursuit including project design and development, project team coordination, and proposal submittal.
The GO Virginia Region One Council met on October 2, 2018 at Appalachian School of Law and approved recommendations of two project proposals for Per Capita grant funding totaling $225,000.
The GO Virginia State Board at their Aug. 14, 2018 meeting, accepted the approval of an enhanced capacity building project that will promote Southwest Virginia’s workforce and bring new jobs to the region. The SWVA Hub Link proposal was recently recommended by the Region One Council for administrative approval to the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. The proposal was approved for $27,547 in Per Capita Grant funding, which will provide planning resources to develop the strategic steps required to construct the SWVA Hub Link portal.
On Friday, July 27, 2018, Governor Northam announced additional appointments to his Administration. Among those appointed is GO Virginia Region One Council Member, Travis Staton, who has been appointed to the Virginia Board of Workforce Development.
