Regional Enhanced Capacity Building Proposal Recommended for GO Virginia Funding

At the June 5, 2018 GO Virginia Region One Council Meeting, the regional council approved a recommendation of $47,088 in Per Capita Grant funding for the SWVA Hub Link proposal.

A project of the Southwest Virginia Technology Council, SWVA Hub Link, is a talent connection initiative, which brings together components of the talent pipeline supporting technology company recruitment efforts throughout the Southwest Virginia Region One. Partnering with both four-year and two-year higher educational institutions as well as regional employers and those interested in establishing operations in the region, the SWVA Hub Link will provide a userfriendly and effective platform, which connects technology employers to qualified talent, and provides a common information portal with the region’s resources thereby strengthening the pipeline to existing technology programs.

This GO Virginia enhanced capacity building proposal includes a request for funding to develop the strategic steps required to pull the various pieces of the project together. Following a successful plan, the Southwest Virginia Technology Council intends to submit a proposal for GO Virginia funding to build the platform.

“We are looking forward to assisting with the planning efforts of this project,” said Mike Quillen, chair of the Region One Council. “The SWVA Hub Link will leverage existing investments in workforce development and once implemented, will be a useful economic development tool to attract technology companies to the region.” In addition to this project, the regional council was pleased to learn of multiple initiatives and developing projects that the region is exploring.

The SWVA Hub Link proposal will be submitted to the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), the support organization for the GO Virginia State Board, for administrative approval. In addition to promoting collaboration across Southwest Virginia, the GO Virginia Region One Council provides funding assistance through Per Capita Grants for initiatives, which align with the Growth and Diversification Plan for the region.

The GO Virginia Region One Council accepts applications for Per Capita Grant funding on a rolling basis. The next deadline for applications to be considered by the Region One Council is July 9, 2018.
